Picture they say worth more than a thousand words. This cliche is true when it comes to adding image to content. Adding feature image to blog post can help draw the attention of your audience or blog reader to the content you labored hard to write. Articles without image that correspond to the theme of content will tend to dilute the appetite for reading except when the title has a strong pull on emotion and it’s needed.
Most WordPress users understood the importance of image on blog, but some may not actually know how to go about it. If you want to know how to add this image that stand on top of your post, follow the simple procedure below.
Adding post thumbnail to blog content.
WordPress has made it very easy to do this. They provided a small box on the right side of the post editor for this purpose on the theme that have it enabled.
I understand that some themes do not enable it on post editor. If you have such theme, it implies that you need to install a plugin for it. You can do this by searching through the WordPress plugin repository for featured image thumbnail or you may select from the list I have below.

Okay, we are now set to add a feature image to a blog post.
Go to the post editor page. After you have composed your post, look at the right hand side, you’ll see a column that contain other post functions like Save to draft, Preview, Publish, Category, Tag, etc. You’ll see ‘Set Featured Image’ link.
Click on it and it will take you to the media library where you can select an image or upload from your computer or from a URL on the internet. When you have selected the image you want to use, click ‘Set featured image’ at the bottom of the page.
Don’t forget to add the image title and Alt. text. (These are good for SEO and people with eye disability). You’ll see the image displayed within the featured image box.
You can also change the image if it’s not suitable for the post by clicking on ‘Remove featured image’. Click again on the Set featured image to reset it.
Preview your post and you’ll see it displayed on the top of your post content below the title depending on how your theme is configured.
Note: The images that are added within the post editor are not the same as featured image. This image will only display within the post while featured image will display on the post and within the category and archive sections and any other place the post is called even on social media sites like Facebook. Although, image within the post also has this capacity, but the featured image will still be taken as default.
Conclusion: You can see that it’s really easy to add featured image on blog which invariably would help beautify your site and also capture the interest of your web visitor to your content.
However, it is important to use them wisely so that they don’t hamper the load time of your site. One image per post is my humble advice except in situation where you need to use image to explain a process. What do you think?
