Personal Facebook account setup is now a necessity if you want to keep in touch with loved ones, interact and share valuable content. More people are finding it relevant as a medium of connecting with people and things that matters to them.
According to the statistics released on Wikipedia, the population of registered user on Facebook is about 950M. As a smart marketer or blogger, it is important to find a way our product or services can reach these set of people. Though, it is expedient to separate business from pleasure hence, the need to setup a Facebook business page.
However, a lead to business transaction could be initiated while having fun relating with people, friends and family members. Sometimes, prospective customers may be more comfortable with a brand after they have built personal relationship they trust with the person or people behind the brand.
How then can we setup a Facebook account that would not only showcase our personal attribute and things we love, but one that can also blend around our hubby or passion.
Register on Facebook. To register on Facebook, you must have a functional email account on Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. You’ll constantly use the mail address to log in to your Facebook account, unlike twitter were you are at liberty to use your username at log in. If you don’t have an email, I suggest you quickly get one on yahoo or Gmail now. When you are through, go back to Facebook and register.
Fill the form appropriate because the data you input here will remain on your account most especially your email, date of birth and name. Keep the password you input here. That will be the password you’ll be using to log in until you decide to change it. Click on the green color background sign up button to proceed.
Security check. Facebook want to know and be sure they are dealing with human being, so a box prompting you to fill in alphabets in block letters as seen into an empty box provided will be displayed on the next page.
Find Friends. The next stage is the opportunity to quickly find friends within your email contacts. This can be a good way to instantly get connected with your existing friends, clients and family members on email list who are already on Facebook. You have the option to skip this.
Profile information. This is where you can update your personal information like schools attended, employment status, current city, home town, etc. What separates a professional who wants to connect with right people and earn respect within the community from a mediocre who just use Facebook for the fun of it is in the profile information page content. It’s like a CV you need to optimize for professional presentation.
As a marketer or blogger, your profile page should include your products or services, your passion/hubby, link to Facebook business page, what drives you, your business, engagements, contact details or a link to your website. All these should build aura that attracts people. Remember, we are in peoples’ business.
Profile Picture. You will need to attach a picture on your account. This will make friends and family recognize you. A Facebook account without profile picture is like a business without a name or a man without head. People admire good looks and can get more connection through that. Though, picture can be deceptive sometimes, but you would have put yourself at vantage position.
Make your profile picture look your very best. You either upload one from your computer or take a new one probably with a web cam or camera. Click save and continue when you are through.
Confirmation of account. You’ll see a page welcoming you to Facebook and the successful completion of the registration process. A link at the top will ask you to confirm or activate you account by log in with the email you used initially for registration. You will see a message from Facebook in your inbox. Open it and click on the confirmation link.
The link will direct you to your Facebook account. Then, you’re done to connect, interact and share items or contents with your circle. It is important to confirm your account, otherwise you may not have access to the account until you activate from the mail sent to you.
Optimize your account. It is fun making your Facebook account look differently or unique. The new Facebook timeline make branding your account simple and easy. Start by creating an innovative cover picture that represent your hubby, pet, passion, etc. Go further to update your profile info and let it include your likes and dislikes, kind of music, videos, psychology, sports, etc. Personalize your account and let people feel your swag.
Privacy settings. It is essential, especially professionals or business persons’ to set the limit of public access to your profile info so that people would not take undue advantage and infringe on your personal life. Don’t allow people you do not know or trust have access to your profile info. Setting your privacy to friends only is better and if you are very conscious of the public, you may set it at private, but I feel this is in the extreme.
Create your first post. It’s time to publish your first post. Try to make your posts creative, intuitive and educative. This can make people notice you and would want to connect with you. More so, Facebook has news feed where you can see in real time the activities of all the friends in your circle and a wall where you can post your thought.
When your comment on posts are timely and thought provoking, you’ll start getting friend request especially when you belong to a popular group or fan page. It’s real fun hanging out on Facebook, but do it with caution because, it can be time consuming.
Facebook account accessories. Yes, I call them accessories or widget for they are the applications that add color, functionality and greater experience to the value of Facebook. The photo album, video, find friends, Facebook group, Facebook page, chat-room and so much more all combine to why people will continue to find Facebook useful and relevant in one way or the other.
You will agree with me that having a Facebook account is indeed a necessity whether you are a businessman, blogger, a lady or a man on the street, you need it to connect, share, interact and socialize.
